Cost of Tennis in Ho Chi Minh City — 2026 Guide

Guide May 2, 2026 · 6 min read

Court rental, coaching fees, and equipment costs in Saigon — with realistic annual budgets for casual, regular, and serious players.

Tennis in Ho Chi Minh City is more affordable than most players expect — especially compared to Bangkok, Singapore, or Tokyo. Here is a clear breakdown of every cost you will encounter.

Court Rental

HCMC has two main court types: outdoor hard courts and covered/indoor hard courts.

  • Outdoor hard courts: 200,000–400,000 VND per hour ($8–16 USD). Price varies by district and time of day. Courts near District 1 (Tao Dan, Thong Nhat) run higher; outer districts (Binh Thanh, District 11) are cheaper.
  • Covered/indoor courts: 500,000–800,000 VND per hour ($20–32 USD). These are climate-controlled or at least shaded, making them the better option during peak heat (11am–3pm) or during rain season.
  • Peak vs. off-peak: Courts charge 20–30% more for morning slots (6–9am) on weekdays and all weekend slots. Off-peak (weekday midday) is the cheapest window, though most working players can't use it.

Tip: Our 8 partner courts include courts in every price range. When you book through TopSpin LAB, court logistics are handled — you don't pay the court separately.

Coaching Fees

This is where costs vary the most.

  • Local VN coaches (informal): 200,000–400,000 VND per hour ($8–16 USD). Found at public courts. Quality varies significantly — no vetting, no booking system.
  • Certified/club coaches at VN price: 400,000–800,000 VND per hour ($16–32 USD). Structured, usually with a fixed location and booking process.
  • TopSpin LAB coaches (drop-in, English concierge): $60–90 USD per session (1–1.5 hours). Includes court, concierge coordination, pre-session briefing. Designed for international players who want a reliable, zero-hassle experience.
  • TopSpin LAB packages for VN pros: 6,900,000 VND for 12 sessions (~575,000 VND/session), or 14,500,000 VND for 24 sessions — roughly half the drop-in rate for committed players.

Note: there are very few internationally certified coaches in HCMC. Most top coaches are certified through Vietnamese federations and/or rated highly on Vinh Infinity. See our coach profiles for rating and specialization details.

Equipment Costs

You can buy tennis gear at reasonable prices in HCMC. Key reference points:

  • Racket: 2,000,000–15,000,000 VND ($80–600 USD). A solid beginner-intermediate racket (Wilson Clash, Babolat Pure Drive) runs 3,000,000–5,000,000 VND. Premium rackets (Head Prestige, Pro Staff) are 8,000,000–12,000,000 VND.
  • Balls: 50,000–80,000 VND for a 3-ball tube. Quality varies — Dunlop Fort and Wilson Tour are widely available and reliable.
  • Shoes: 1,000,000–3,000,000 VND for a decent pair ($40–120 USD). Asics Gel-Resolution and Nike Court Air Zoom are available at major sports stores.
  • Grip tape, dampener, string replacement: 50,000–200,000 VND per service. Re-stringing costs 200,000–400,000 VND at most sports shops near any major court.

If you are flying in and don't want to travel with a racket, TopSpin LAB coaches can arrange a demo loaner for your first session at no charge.

Annual Budget Estimates

Here is a realistic annual budget for three types of players:

Casual Player (~2 sessions/month)

  • 24 coaching sessions at $65 avg: $1,560
  • Court rental included in TopSpin sessions: $0 separately
  • Balls + grip tape: ~$60
  • Total: ~$1,620 / year

Regular Player (~1 session/week)

  • 48 coaching sessions (Pro pack rate ~$45): ~$2,160
  • Equipment refresh (shoes, strings): ~$200
  • Social play / court rental for friendly games (10 extra sessions): ~$150
  • Total: ~$2,510 / year

Serious / Competitive Player (~3 sessions/week)

  • 144 coaching sessions (Elite pack rate): ~$5,800
  • Tournament entries (3–5 per year at 500,000–1,500,000 VND): ~$200
  • Equipment (2 rackets, shoes x2, strings monthly): ~$600
  • Total: ~$6,600 / year

How to Reduce Costs

  1. Buy a session pack. TopSpin LAB's 10-pack saves 10% versus drop-in. For VN Pro players, the 24-session Elite pack is roughly half the single-session rate.
  2. Play off-peak hours. Court rental is 20–30% cheaper on weekday mornings outside 6–9am and weekday afternoons.
  3. Share court rental for social play. Splitting a court with 3 other players (doubles) cuts court cost to 50,000–100,000 VND per person per hour.
  4. Join community events. TopSpin LAB's Saturday Round Robin events cost 500,000–600,000 VND per person and include 2–3 hours of competitive match play — excellent value compared to coaching sessions.

Is It Worth It Compared to Other Cities?

Yes. For international players, HCMC tennis offers a rare combination: year-round weather (adjust for heat and rain), a growing community of expat players, and professional coaching at 40–60% of Singapore or Bangkok rates. The quality gap has narrowed significantly in the last five years.
